Community Investment Tax Credits Benefit both Individual
and Corporate
Donors:
CASA of
Baltimore County has been awarded Community Investment
Tax Credits. INDIVIDUALS and Businesses with an Income Tax liability in
Maryland are eligible to "buy" tax credits from CASA to
support the work of our CASA Volunteers. For
example , a $1,000 donation to CASA purchases $500 in
Tax credits for Income tax owed for 2010. The $1,000
donation is also deductive as a charitable expense for
State and Federal Tax purposes as well, which again
reduces the "cost" of the donation to the business as a
donor.

Investment Tax Credits today.
Volunteer Recognition Breakfast
On
Saturday, April 10th, approximately 100 people gathered
for the Third Annual, Mary Maffezzoli Volunteer
Recognition Breakfast at the Towson Sheraton. The event
is named in memory of Mary, a member of our very
first group of CASA Volunteers who later served as a
Volunteer Supervisor for the program..
A
good time was had by all. Over 100 volunteers, board
members, staff and guests gathered to celebrate the work
of our dedicated CASA Volunteers on behalf of abused and
neglected children in Baltimore County. The Villa Maria
children’s choir entertained the gathering with two
songs including a rousing participatory rendition of
“She’s Coming Around the Mountain”.!
Speakers for the morning included Judge Cox and Ashley
Ruddelsden. Ashley, a former Baltimore County foster
child, told her own story and spoke on the importance of
CASA advocacy for children and on the importance on
working with youth to learn how to advocate for
themselves. Ashley spoke of her good fortune in
having Kelly Buedel as her CASA volunteer for almost
eight years. Ashley and Kelly remain in close contact.
This
event will continue to be held annually. We hope to see
even a larger number of volunteers turn out to be
recognized next Spring.
